San Agustinillo

Just one hour from Huatulco, on the coast of Oaxaca, we find a beautiful town called San Agustinillo. This small community, with a population of 300 inhabitants, bases itseconomy on fishing and tourism. The beach is approximately one and a half kilometers long, with a small bay on the occidental side formed by rocks that decorate the ocean sight. This natural barrier keeps the big waves and current on the outside, leaving a large area of calm water, perfect for children or people with little swimming experience. On the second part of the beach, where the rock formation has no protective influence, the sea is excellent for those who rather swim in agitated and active water.

Buildings get lost in the tropical vegetation, harmonizing with their surroundings thanks to the use of natural materials, such as walls covered with clay, wood structures and roofs made off palm leafs. The main street runs just a couple of feet away from the beach, and right across it, most of the houses stand on a small hill which allows them to have a privileged view, making the ocean visible from almost anywhere in the town. There are lots of different activities for having a good time in San Agustinillo. You can just take a walk on the beach and enjoy the feeling of soft sand under your feet, while you pick up seashells that are scattered all around. For an intense experience, practice surfing in the east area of the sea, where waves are ideal for such a sport. It is also possible to snorkel in the clear water of the bay, or take a boat trip to appreciate the local sea population, rich in a great variety of species, such as sea turtles, tropical fish, dolphins and whales.
